The type of paint we use on our hats and packaging is Zero VOC, meaning it’s the cleanest and most eco-friendly paint with 0 carbon-containing substances that would typically become vapor and gases that are present in competitive paint companies. The color vibrancy, excellent application performance, and long- term durability characteristics have made Dunn-Edwards a great partner to work with. They were even so kind to sponsor our paint for our Palm Springs Pop-Up Shop.
Learn more about Dunn-Edwards and its history below:
1925
Dunn-Edwards is the pioneer of sustainable paint technology. Founded in 1925, Dunn-Edwards has been one of the largest family-owned paint companies in the United States. Frank “Buddy” Dunn founded the company, not as a paint maker but as a wallpaper store in Los Angeles. The business expanded as he added a line of paints, and later (with two employees) he began manufacturing his own paints in the backroom of the company’s second store.
1938
In 1938, he partnered with his friend Arthur C. Edwards, a former painting contractor and pigment salesman, to form the Dunn-Edwards Corporation. Sales immediately improved, and a business philosophy was born: “Make the finest line of paint and give the best service at fair prices.” It’s a philosophy that endures through this day.
1954 and Onwards
Not only has Dunn-Edwards had superior and vibrant paint quality, but it also has been a pioneer of sustainability and safety, often times eliminating harmful paint ingredients for more environmentally friendly options years ahead of counterparts and official industry bans. From innovating recycled paint compounds to 0 VOC, which are harmful carbon-containing substances that easily become vapor and gases, this conscious and proactive shift in eco-friendly movements have been a vetted and hospitable partner to Superbloom.
2011 & 2017
In 2011, Dunn-Edwards opened the world’s first LEED Gold-Certified paint manufacturing facility. This caught the attention of Nippon Paint, the oldest paint company in Japan, leading to a strategic merger in 2017, providing new coating technology and resources to Dunn-Edwards. According to Dina, Nippon Paint has been a tremendous parent company, upholding the culture and similar values for sustainability and a vision for the future.
